Ausdecom was engaged to complete the full on-site decommissioning, structural and civil demolition works at the Bulwer Island Refinery, built in the 1960’s to produce fuel from Crude Oil which was shutdown in 2015.
The safe demolition/decommissioning process was undertaken over a 12-month period from start to finish.

Unknown quantities of residual oils and contaminated substances present within former refinery process units.
Unknown quantities of asbestos present on-site.
Protection of Live JET Terminal/Major Hazard facility to allow import and exports to continue as normal.

16,500t of Steel demolished and safely transported from site for recycling.
21,000t of concrete demolished and safely transported from site for recycling.
1,000t of Contaminated soil removed from site.
900t of Refractory tested and disposed of from site.
